What is an LED?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. It emits light when an electric current passes through it. It is less power consuming than other light sources and has a longer life span.

What is Pixel Pitch?

Pixel Pitch is the distance between the centers of two LED Bulbs on a module. It is measured in millimeters. For example, P2.5 MM LED Display Screen would have 2.5 mm distance between its two bulbs. A smaller/finer pixel pitch has lesser distance between its bulbs which creates a higher resolution and a larger pixel pitch, say P6 MM, has lower resolution.

There is a suitable time and place for each resolution. So, you need to ask these questions from the seller before buying an LED or planning for a project.

What Resolution do I need for my LED Display?

Resolution depends upon various factors like Viewing Distance and the space (whether indoor or outdoor). If the distance between the audience and the LED Display is more, say over 50 feet, then a larger pixel pitch is suggested with high brightness. But if the audience is very close to the screen, like in a conference room or classroom, then, a finer pixel pitch with high resolution will be suitable. It will provide maximum clarity and the  brightness in such a case will not be to be much as it will give strain on the eyes of the viewer.

What screen size should I choose for my LED Display Screen?

Screen size will depend on a number of factors like your space and your application for the product. If the audience will be farther away from the screen, like in a stadium or a concert, choose a lower resolution. But if the audience is pretty close to the screen, go for higher resolution without sacrificing on the viewer’s experience. You should also consider the Aspect Ratio while buying LED Display Screens.

What is Aspect Ratio?

The ratio of the width to the height of an LED Display screen is known as Aspect Ratio. An ideal Aspect ratio would be 16:9 for your LED. It means that when you choose a screen size and divide your width by height then the value should be close to 1.78 to get.

For example, if you choose to buy an LED of the size 12×8 then the aspect ratio would be approx. 1.55 which is close to the ideal so it would be a good size for your LED.

What is a NIT?

The brightness of an LED is measured in Nits. It is just as important as resolution. It tells how much light will reach to your eyes in a given area. You have to consider your audience and application when selecting the NIT because the right brightness will help your audience see your content perfectly- especially while buying Outdoor LED Displays.

What is an IP Rating?

It is a two digit number defining a display’s sealing effectiveness. The first digit represents ingress protection against solid objects like dust, dirt, and other elements. The second digit represents protection against liquids such as rain. Outdoor LED displays should have have higher IP ratings to withstand the elements and make them waterproof.
